- W4206090882 abstract "The notion of crisis in the countryside has been analysed in different ways within Marxist political economy. Locating crisis within the logic of capitalism itself, this chapter posits crisis in the countryside in broader historical terms, as the process which thwarts the prospects of development in its economic, social, political, cultural and ecological dimensions. The chapter takes issue with Eurocentric and economistic approaches to the ‘classical’ agrarian question which privilege a narrow conception of ‘industrialization-driven-modernization’ as the presumed resolution of the agrarian question. It is argued that such a conception is fundamentally misleading on the question of crisis in the countryside, as on the importance of the agrarian question for national liberation and world development." @default.
