- W4206465616 abstract "This chapter describes the feasibility of nonconventional materials as fine and coarse aggregate in the lightweight and self-compacting concretes. The mechanical, structural, and blast-resistant behaviors of nonconventional materials based on recent research outcomes have been explained. One of the salient features of the lightweight aggregates is its water absorption characteristic and hence presoaking or the use of additional water is vital. The pores in palm oil clinker sand absorb the mortar and enhances the bond property and a high strength concrete of 60 MPa cube compressive strength was registered. The density reduction of about 28% for lightweight concrete compared to normal concrete was reported. On the other hand, the use of oil palm shell (OPS) in the blast-resistant concrete showed its ductile nature has the capability of absorbing impact and energy. A separate section deals with the application of sustainable materials in the development of self-compacting concrete." @default.
