- W4206797141 abstract "With the introduction of optical superchannels, which avoid the electronic bottleneck via optical parallelism, optical transmission with per-channel data rates reaching and even exceeding Terabits/sec (Tb/s) has been experimentally demonstrated. Tb/s-class superchannels have also led to a rethinking of spectral bandwidth allocation beyond the current fixed-grid architectures, leading to the so-called flexible-grid architecture, which allows for a more efficient utilization of the optical spectrum. In this chapter, we review recent progress in Tb/s-class superchannel transmission and wavelength routing. This chapter is organized as follows. The second section describes the superchannel principle and multiplexing schemes. The third section presents superchannel transceiver designs including the joint signal processing of superchannel constituents. The fourth section addresses the transmission performance of superchannels based on joint nonlinearity compensation. The fifth section discusses high-capacity wavelength routing with Tb/s-class superchannels. Finally, the last section concludes this chapter with an outlook of future perspectives on superchannel-enabled high-capacity optical transmission and wavelength routing." @default.
