- W4206804542 abstract "Supercritical fluids have properties between those of gases and liquids. Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) utilizes the ability of a liquid to dissolve an analyte with the chromatographic interactions and kinetics of a gas. This chapter presents the advantages and disadvantages of SFC in comparison with gas chromatography and liquid chromatography. SFC can involve the use of either capillary, or packed columns, which have much in common with capillary gas chromatography and modern liquid chromatography, respectively. Packed column SFC is the form used most widely. Carbon dioxide is the eluent fluid of choice in SFC. SFC systems require pressure regulation in order to maintain critical conditions. As in gas chromatography, the polarity of the stationary phase is a guide to column selection in capillary SFC. SFC is the suggested method of choice when developing chiral separations. The chapter also discusses the toxicological and forensic applications of SFC." @default.
