- W4210292738 abstract "Cost effective provision of electricity plays an important role in the development of countries. In near future the fuel of whole industry is going to be shifted totally on electrical energy. Huge amount of electrical energy is consumed to transmission line losses. Research in reducing the losses through electrical engineering techniques is already matured. In this era of nanotechnology, CNTs mechanical, electrical and thermal qualities are reported up to record level. CNTs are metallic or semiconducting depending on their chirality. The metallic CNTs can be incorporated in transmission lines to cut the losses up to extent level as these nanotubes are super conductive, less resistive, lighter in weight, stronger in mechanical strength, and extra ordinary in terms of thermal expansion. This paper explains that how CNTs can be the candidates of future transmission network of power system. The significances, possibilities and challenges of including CNTs in transmission lines are discussed in detail. The significances of CNTs over conventional conductors are presented in terms of skin effect, mechanical strength, thermal expansion, resistivity, conductivity and current carrying capacity." @default.
