- W4210338033 abstract "Assessment of strength degradation in composite laminates, e.g. due to fatigue, is used in remaining life prediction through renowned engineering models. Herein, residual strength of pre-fatigued unidirectional fibre-reinforced composites is estimated using acoustic emission measurements. Two empirical schemes are presented, established on specimens under R = 0.1 constant-amplitude loading at several stress level and life fraction combinations. With matrix cracking being the dominant failure mechanism for the proof-loading magnitudes used, the methods are also considered applicable in all cases bearing the particular damage mode. Indeed, the schemes prove valid for various materials, specimen configurations and loading conditions, including different stress ratios as well as variable-amplitude loading." @default.
