- W4210367652 abstract "In 2015, Law and Justice (PiS) gained an absolute majority in the Sejm as a result of parliamentary elections. Before 2015, the rulers did not use neo-militant democracy measures efficiently to increase the sovereignty of the political nation. After 2015, the ruling party attempted to objectify Polish society. These attempts were only partially successful due to democratic public opinion and the significant increase in NGO activity. At the same time, the ruling party extended its power competencies and tried to marginalise opposition parties. The political scene was dominated by an emotionally loaded, unambiguous discourse with a clear hate speech component, effectively precluding any rational deliberation. The independence of courts and judges was systematically destroyed. Law and Justice unlawfully took over the Constitutional Tribunal and subordinated to itself the Supreme Court and the National Council of the Judiciary. Though prior to 2015, rulers had used neo-militant democracy measures in a moderate and often ineffective manner, Law and Justice has since then increasingly relied on quasi-militant democratic means. This has become severely pronounced since 2018 and Poland has begun transforming into a prerogative state." @default.
