- W4210367933 abstract "Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has recognized as an odorous toxic pollutant for a long time; however, endogenous and exogenous forms of H2S have recently attracted consideration as an innovative gaseous signaling molecule. Hydrosulfide anion (HS–), as the conjugate base of H2S, plays an important role in hydrosulfide treatments in medicine, agriculture, and industry. Cystathionine-β-synthase and cystathionine-γ-lyase are the familiar enzymes, which endogenously synthesize H2S that has various biological roles in many organisms. In plant systems, H2S and its donor (like NaHS) treatment decreases the level of reactive oxygen species, hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide, and malondialdehyde; enhances the level of electrophile generation and the activity of antioxidant enzymes; and consequently improves biotic/abiotic stress tolerance by stimulation of antioxidant and H2S biosynthesis systems. In addition, H2S has vital biological and regulatory functions in mammalian cells such as control and change in vascular homeostasis, vasorelaxation, metabolism, apoptosis, oxygen sensing, oxidative stress, inflammation, proliferation, diabetes, protein activity, and angiogenesis. Moreover, recent researches demonstrate the potential of H2S and its donor to eliminate and purify metals, metalloids, and heavy metals and also in biological treatment especially in the wastewater treatment field. In this chapter, the application of hydrosulfide treatment is detaily explained in medicine, agriculture, and industry." @default.
