- W4210925125 abstract "Ethanol obtention from biomass materials was a very desirable goal, at this date, with badly fulfilled results. The composite like and crystalline cellulose structure poses different types of problems in the saccharification processing of carbohydrate polymers that have not been addressed yet. The successful process should involve a first de-crystallization step followed by subsequent hydrolyses of cellulose fibrils. A new methodology using organic solvents with concentrated acids was developed and presented for the first time in this book, which is capable of both de-crystallize and hydrolyze cellulose to sugar level without formation of degradation products. At the same time, acid recovery is made easy and constitutes a new method that effectively allows the competitive cellulose conversion in ethanol. The process arouses in the understand of the mechanisms that phosphate or sulfate anions use to make possible the easy disrupting of the cellulose crystal lattice and a mechanistic proposal for their involvement is suggested." @default.
