- W4210977031 abstract "This chapter examines workplace bullying in precarious employment. The use of precarious employment is increasing throughout the world. There are many different forms of precarious employment, with a key common feature being job insecurity. Little is understood about the links between precarious employment and workplace bullying, as scant research has been conducted on the bullying of precarious workers, with the limited research to date reporting mixed findings. It is important that an enhanced understanding of bullying in precarious employment be gained. The chapter examines the extant literature to explore some of the factors that are associated with an increased risk of bullying for precarious workers, including personal and industry characteristics, power and hierarchical status. The vital role of legal and regulatory frameworks in the protection of employees in precarious employment is also highlighted. Management in organizations, including labour-hire agencies, also have key responsibilities through preventative anti-bullying policies, as well as effectively dealing with any incidents of bullying. Studies with a specific focus on bullying in precarious employment are warranted; thus, the chapter concludes with a discussion of several avenues for future research." @default.
