- W4211034771 abstract "Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is an electrochemical corrosion processes that is affected by presence and activity of living organisms such as, but not limited to, bacteria and archaea. In this chapter, we will review what is currently available on both recognition and treatment of MIC, and also we will consider some of the pros and cons of them. We will show that if a good MIC corrosion management via a well-organized FMEA (failure modes, effects, causes, and analysis) approach is not applied, bacterial resistance to biocide application is highly likely to occur. We also show that contrary to what some authors may imply, the main characteristic of any material selection must be the intrinsic features of the material as dictated by its alloying elements later to be followed by factors that would be augmented on the material such as but not limited to welding, hydrotesting, surface finish, and the like. In this chapter, we have applied and used a number of innovative ways to understand MIC especially for engineers and industrialists as well as researchers. An example is what we have called “Javaherdashti hypothesis for MIC at fluids with high flow rates” to explain the possible reasons why in fluids with flow rates higher than 1.5 m/s, one can still see biofilm formation and MIC." @default.
