- W4211251715 abstract "Reliable short implant designs will offer the most efficient way to overcome anatomical barriers with minimal invasiveness, greater safety, applicability by a wider range of practitioners, and an economic benefit for patients. This chapter reviews recent data on the use of short implants and to highlight ways to maximize successful treatment outcomes. A few clinicians suggested that a short implant has a designed intrabony length (DIL) of ≤8 mm. Many considerable efforts have been directed toward understanding if and how dental implants of lengths ≤8 mm can be used successfully. It would appear that multiple factors besides implant length are at play, including: implant surface topography; implant diameter; surgical preparation of the osteotomy; operator experience; initial implant stability; progressive early implant loading; crestal bone loss after onset of function; and mechanical overload." @default.
