- W4214721331 abstract "Diagenesis of clastic rocks is a function of the chemical interaction between formation water and rock; thus, the evolution of diagenetically active species in formation waters is important to modeling clastic diagenesis. Several organic-inorganic interactions play key roles in establishing dynamic diagenetic pathways or diagenetic facies of reservoir sands. Carboxylic acid anions (CAA) evolve as a product of microbial action, thermal maturation of sedimentary organic material, abiotic sulfate reduction, and mineral oxidation of dissolved organics. CAA's are important to buffering both formation water Eh and pH and have the capacity to transport Al and Si from aluminosilicate dissolution. At temperatures from about 100 to 140°C, abiotic sulfate reduction of hydrocarbons to hydrogen sulfide and bicarbonate begins to become diagenetically important in deep sedimentary sequences with a sulfate source. H2S is corrosive to feldspars and carbonates and also provides a sink for Fe via pyrite precipitation. The relative timing of these species' generation allows construction of a generalized organic-inorganic diagenetic model, which predicts generalized diagenetic mineralogy and organic-inorganic reaction pathways." @default.
