- W4220736629 abstract "The objective of this work is to synthesize and characterize the semiconductor NiCo2O4 (NCO) and use it for photodegradation of basic blue 41 dye (BB41) as a hetero-system (NiCo2O4/ZnO). The first part of this work focused on the synthesis and the characterization of the semiconductor NCO and ZnO; the spinel phase NCO was characterized by different methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) to identify the different phases, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to determine the shape of the particles and by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to investigate the chemical state and elemental composites. The optical proprieties were analyzed using UV–VIS diffusion reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), an optical bandgap of 1.05 eV was found for NiCo2O4 and 3.17 eV for ZnO. Electrochemical characterization was also done to build an energy diagram and determine the semiconductor type; a p-type of semiconductor was selected for NCO with a flat band of 0.2 VSCE. The second section investigates the photodegradation of the BB41 dye by the NiCo2O4/ZnO hetero-system under visible and solar lights. The effect of specific parameters such as the pH of the solution, the initial concentration of the BB41 dye, catalyst dose, and the NiCo2O4/ZnO mass ratio were studied. The optimum conditions were found at a neutral pH, a mass ratio (25%/75%) NiCo2O4/ZnO and a catalyst dose of 0.75 g/L with a complete degradation within only 50 min for BB41 concentration of 10 mg/L. Finally, the mechanism of the photodegradation of BB41 was investigated and both O2-• and e- were found to be the most active species." @default.
