- W4220835977 abstract "Through the process of immunophenotyping, the vast majority of human lymphomas and leukemias may be identified by marker expression with concurrent cytological assessment. Immunophenotyping may be performed on paraffin-embedded tissue specimens through immunohistochemistry (IHC) or on glass slide cytology samples with immunocytochemistry (ICC). For hematologic malignancies, flow cytometric immunophenotyping can be used to accomplish two general diagnostic objectives: determine if a patient has lymphoma or leukemia and determine the specific lymphoma or leukemia present. Flow cytometry is commonly performed in cases of peripheral blood lymphocytosis or lymphadenopathy when cytologic assessment cannot differentiate neoplastic or reactive processes. For patients presenting with a neoplastic lymphocytosis, a common diagnostic conundrum is distinguishing a true leukemia from a lymphoma in leukemic phase (e.g., canine stage V lymphoma)." @default.
