- W4220995328 abstract "The acute oral toxicity study of the ethanolic extracts of un-irradiated Guazuma ulmifolia Lamk. leaves (EE-GUL) and irradiated G. ulmifolia leaves (EE-IRGUL) in mice has been carried out. The study aimed to determine the acute toxicity potential of EE-GUL and EE-IRGUL using male and female DDY mice based on the procedure of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and National Agency of Drug and Food Control. Mice were fasted for 8 h before and 4 h after given the test samples. The preliminary test was carried out at a dose of 300 mg/kg BW, followed by the main test at doses of 300, 2000, and 5000 mg/kg BW. Observation of body weight change, toxic symptoms, and mice death as manifestation of toxic effects were carried out every 4 h after treatment in the first 24 h and then observation were continued once a day until day-14. At the end of the test, the mice were sacrificed and the vital organs were observed for pathological and histological abnormalities. The results showed that the oral administration of EE-GUL and EE-IRGUL at the limit tests of 5000 mg/kg BW did not show any toxic symptoms and death of mice. Observation of pathological and histological of vital organs also did not appear any significant changes. Hence, the LD50 value of EE-GUL and EE-IRGUL in mice could be greater than 5000 mg/kg which was equivalent to the dose of 38.79 g in human with 70 kg BW. Based on the acute toxic classification, this value was classified as “practically non- toxic”. It meant that gamma irradiation up to dose of 7.5 kGy to extend the shelf life of the G. ulmifolia simplicia did not cause the simplicia to become acute toxic." @default.
