- W4221002859 abstract "This chapter discusses the fundamentals of critical point phenomena and effects of a shear flow. It describes the experimental methods and presents and considers the results. In near-critical binary mixtures, viscosity increases when nearing the critical point as an effect of increasing concentration fluctuations. The chapter provides the basics of the photon-beating technique. The vicinity of second-order phase transition (critical point) exhibits a number of universal, scaled behaviors. Spatial fluctuations near the critical point can be strongly deformed by external influences as hydrodynamics. The latex bead suspensions are composed mainly of polymer particles and water, with small amounts of surfactant, sodium bicarbonate and potassium sulfate. The Brownian motion of colloids (beads) immersed in a liquid is closely related to the hydrodynamic flows around the colloids. The concentration fluctuations become so distorted by the shear flow that the viscosity enhancement is locally canceled." @default.
