- W4224884881 abstract "Four years of studies of the quantitative, material, and chemical composition of insoluble atmospheric matter in the snow cover of the coastal zone of the southeastern Baltic Sea have been summarized. The insoluble atmospheric particle concentration in snow cover varied from 3.2 to 11.2 mg/l. The values of vertical fluxes are 1.3–5.9 mg/m 2 /day. The material composition component is characterized by the dominance of anthropogenic material (black carbon particle aggregate, fly ash and etc.) over lithogenic and biogenic material. The interannual content of heavy metals varies over a wide range, especially the content of Cd and Cu. Enrichment of atmospheric material with Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Bi occurs mainly from anthropogenic sources. A characteristic feature of rare earth elements in the insoluble snow matter is the high enrichment of LREEs relative to HREEs with a negative europium anomaly indicates their natural origin. • The insoluble atmospheric particle concentration in snow cover varied from 3.2 to 11.2 mg/l, the values of vertical fluxes are 1.3–5.9 mg/m 2 /day. • In the enrichment of atmospheric material with heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn, Bi), the leading role belongs to the anthropogenic factor. • The high enrichment of LREEs relative to HREEs with a negative europium anomaly indicates their natural origin. • The formation of the lithogenic component of insoluble snow cover particles occur when local sources dominate." @default.
