- W4225515516 abstract "Herbal medicines are commonly used all over the world to treat a number of chronic conditions. Bioactive compounds of herbal origin are pure constituents, either as standardized plant fraction, which could be the opportunity to get novel drug flourish owing to their complexity and uniqueness. The novel approaches were used to incorporate bioactive compounds in drug delivery system in order to increase efficacy and reducing side effects. From so many decades, drug delivery system containing bioactive fraction were not considered owing to lack of scientific studies, difficulty in handling, such as standardization, extraction and identification of chemical constituents due to complexity of herbal samples. The method of standardization of herbal bioactive compound can give assurance of presence of single or multiple bioactive compound and marker in herbal drug delivery system. However, modern analytical techniques with the aid of reference marker and pharmacopeial standards can help in standardization of such a herbal drug delivery system. Thus it is important to integrate standardization aspects of drug delivery system. This chapter summarizes various aspects of standardization, herbal extraction, solvent selection, standard marker use, available analytical methods, and factors affecting in vitro and in vivo bioactivity studies with few examples." @default.
