- W4225957437 abstract "Nanomaterials (NMs) are chemical substances or materials developed and evolved in the multiple fields of sensors, electronics, biomedical engineering, optical communications technology, and many more due to their unique properties, small tunable sizes and large surface area to volume ratio. The NMs exhibit novel characteristic features such as increased strength, higher sensitivity, stability, chemical reactivity or conductivity, biocompatibility and less toxicity. In the opinion of American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) the sizes of the NMs range from 1 to 100 nm with one or more dimensions. The NMs are generally classified into carbon, inorganic or organic-based materials within the nanoscale range and its properties was diverse compared to the larger size of the respective materials. In research and commercial purposes, the NMs are mainly synthesized by chemical, physical and mechanical processes. This chapter aims to review the NMs synthesis, classification and its properties, characterization methods and their application in the field of sensors, chemo and bioimaging. The chapter seeks to ultimately accomplish the views for the recognition of environmental toxic hazards, heavy metals and biological components such as enzymes, proteins and different biomarkers using the organic, inorganic, metal-based NMs." @default.
