This chapter will elaborate on the technologically advanced techniques for incorporating nanomaterials into the NF’s membranes composition preparing nanoenhanced NF membranes. The multifaceted designing of NF membranes plays a pivotal role in their performance too. Therefore the various progression in designing nanoenhanced NF membranes, naming polymer-based nanoenhanced mixed matrix (MMM) NF membranes, thin-film nanocomposite (TFN) NF membranes and electrospun nanofibrous NF membranes will be further discussed. These designs gained grave importance due to their ability to better the antifouling properties, permeate quality, and longevity. Incorporating nanofillers dispersed in a polymer cast in MMMs, combine the benefits of every phase: high selectivity of the dispersed nanofillers, desirable mechanical features, and economical processability of polymers boosting the overall process productiveness. Moreover, the additional interfacial channels between the nanofillers and the polymeric matrix of NF membranes can shorten water transport pathways through the TFN, positively impacting water permeation. Lastly, using the nanoenhanced electrospun nanofibrous scaffold to fabricate NF membranes leads them to have highly porous substrates with three-dimensional interconnected pore structures and excellent separation performances. Finally, this chapter opens up the avenue of exploring the commercializing stage and commercial feasibility of the engineered NF throughout the market." @default.
