- W4226159178 abstract "Nowadays, there is an essential need to use new paradigms in developing membranes for water treatment. So, emerging concepts, including bioinspiration, biomimetic, and stimuli-responsive, are the practical tools in designing membranes to overcome the limitations of membranes’ performance. Nature is an inspiring pallet for developing materials with unique properties, including bioinspired-based membranes and biomimetic-based membranes. Bioinspiration forms a bridge between engineering and science. For example, among the bioinspired materials, polydopamine has a great potential to be used in bioinspired nanofiltration membranes, which will be discussed in this chapter. Biomimetic is a science that tries to develop novel materials to solve existing engineering problems by imitating natural phenomena. Modifying the membrane’s pores or a surface or embedding artificial channels into block copolymers can be used to fabricate biomimetic-based nanofiltration membranes. Another concept in creating nanofiltration membranes is stimuli responsiveness. Stimuli-responsive polymers are sensitive to environmental changes, which can provide an excellent opportunity regarding water remediation and will be discussed in detail in this chapter." @default.
