- W4226162006 abstract "The subject of this chapter covers issues related to the influence of ventilation conditions, most often expressed by the equivalence ratio, on the toxicity of the environment during a fire. The first subchapter contains an introduction to the subject under consideration and a review of the most important literature sources related to it. The second section provides information on the toxic gaseous products emitted during a fire and their impact on human health and life. There are also discussed parameters related to the assessment of the degree of toxicity, such as FED (Fractional Effective Dose) or LC50 (compliant with the standard BS ISO 13344: 2004). In the next subchapter, theoretical foundations related to the influence of ventilation conditions on the toxicity of the fire environment are presented, and three selected experiments aimed at examining this relationship are discussed. The first one included a small-scale combustion process in accordance with the standard ISO/TS 19700. In the second, ISO 9705 room fire tests were carried and for comparison tests of the same power on a larger scale. In turn, in the third experiment, large-scale fire tests were carried out, as a result of which toxic gas concentrations were obtained for two apartments sealed (poorly ventilated fire) and unsealed (well-ventilated fire). This section also analyzes the results obtained during the above-mentioned fire tests. The last subchapter presents a summary and general conclusions formulated on the basis of three fire experiments. The general conclusion resulting from them is that the ventilation conditions have a significant impact on the concentrations of almost all toxic gases emitted during a fire of various combustible materials, in particular plastics, which are now a frequent element of interior furnishings." @default.
