- W4226162861 abstract "At present, the use of multiomics approaches such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics are getting popular across all facets of life sciences, especially in plant biology. Interestingly, the high-throughput DNA sequencing tools such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) has contributed greatly to recent advances in the plant-omics area of research. Voluminous sequencing data produced by NGS is managed, processed, and analyzed by bioinformatics approaches paving the way for deducing meaningful information from the huge amount of data in the shortest possible time. Cotton ( Gossypium spp.) is a worldwide important natural renewable fiber source for textiles. The dazzling array of benefits resulting from omics revolt in the areas of agricultural research encouraged the cotton researchers to improve the plant breeding in a short time with less cost of growing higher-quality and stress-resistant food crops. Hence, omics provides new insights to understand the mechanisms of insect resistance in field crops such as maize, cotton, soybean, etc. With the beginning of the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) era, dramatic increases have been made in world cotton production. Bioinformatics is playing an indispensable role in the integration of individual omics data in a sequential manner to understand the interrelationships of various types of cellular molecules and their functions to improve resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses as well as increase lint yield and quality. Moreover, multiomics-integrated informatics lend a helping hand in assessing the information flow from one level of omics to another and consequently help in interrelating genotype to phenotype. This chapter provides a comprehensive view of currently available bioinformatics databases and tools for the integrated omics study on cotton, as well as the challenges associated with the integration of multiomics data." @default.
