- W4229061051 abstract "Upgrading the plastics economy with better materials and practices has increasingly gained the attention of society – from consumer over producer to worldwide governments. Plastics have entered the top list of planetary challenges. As the desire to upgrade the current plastic industry has recently grown to be so substantial, the checklist for successful transition is becoming prominent on the agenda at all levels. In this chapter, the non-technical bullet points on this list are discussed more in depth because a technical breakthrough is only a part of the overall solution. In this chapter, we will illustrate why, next to initiating creation with newly developed green building blocks, it is important to list the challenges and pitfalls related to non-technical parameters when launching novel materials or practices. By understanding the recent history of commercialized biopolymers (Section), the issues of fossil companies and the public (Section), and the value chain from idea to product (Section), we can set up innovation standards that can move us forward all together, which we will further define by giving five principles or “golden rules” (Section). Finally, it will be demonstrated how to develop and activate the necessary social parameters to help create the new plastics economy." @default.
