- W4229501148 abstract "Picrorhiza kurroa is a high-altitude medicinal herb possessing hepatoprotective, antioxidative, anticancerous, antidiabetic, and various other therapeutic properties. Picroside-I (P-I) and picroside-II (P-II) are the main active constituents of this plant, which have been utilized in various commercial herbal drug formulations. Exhaustive and unorganized collection along with illegal trading led to its categorization as an endangered medicinal plant species. In this chapter, medical significance and cell culture techniques used for mass propagation along with picrosides production in P. kurroa have been reviewed. Further, omics-based approaches used to elucidate the biosynthetic routes and key genes involved in picrosides production have been discussed for their potential implications in molecular breeding and metabolic engineering of P. kurroa ." @default.
