- W4229691131 abstract "After decades of developing biodegradable metals, much effort has been devoted to the research of biodegradable Mg and Fe metals. However, the unsatisfactory corrosion behavior impedes their clinical application. Zn, as an essential nutrition element of human body, has been regarded as a promising biodegradable metal recently. The corrosion potential of Zn is between that of Fe and Mg, suggesting a preferable corrosion property. Meanwhile, Zn plays an important role in many physiological functions. In this chapter, the microstructure, mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, and biocompatibility of pure Zn as well as Zn-based materials have been reviewed. Besides, the challenges of the future development of Zn-based biomedical materials have been discussed." @default.
