- W4230256013 abstract "Exposure of the mineralised dentine to pulp cells, following damage to the organic sheath, predentine and odontoblasts can potentially initiate the internal resorption process. Aetiological factors for internal root resorption include trauma, dentine cracks, pulpal disease, dens invaginatus, pulpotomy, restorative treatment, autotransplantation, orthodontic treatment and viral infection such as herpes zoster. Diagnosis of internal root resorption is based on accurate clinical and radiographic assessment. Internal root resorption may present as a pink (vital) or dark grey (non-vital) coronal lesion located centrally. Cone beam computed tomography provides additional relevant information on the location, extent and nature of resorptive lesions and can be very useful in the diagnosis and treatment planning of cases of perforating root resorption defects. The aim of treatment is to stop the resorptive process by eliminating its causes, eradicate the intraradicular bacterial infection, seal any present perforations, obturate the root canal system and provide an effective coronal restoration." @default.
