- W4230851438 abstract "Acetaminophen (APAP) is one of the most commonly used drug molecules. APAP is a cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor with anti‐inflammatory properties and is also used as a common analgesic. One adverse effect of concern is that APAP and its metabolites may induce liver, blood cell, and kidney damages. CYP‐mediated oxidation of APAP produces N ‐acetyl‐ p ‐benzoquinone imine (NAPQI), a highly reactive species that rapidly conjugates with glutathione. Upon glutathione depletion, NAPQI covalently binds with proteins to form protein conjugates in the cell and is responsible for the liver toxicity associated with APAP overdose." @default.
