- W4231284562 abstract "In India, the search for a much cheaper surgical modality of treatment of vitiligo has led to the development by a few dermatologists of 'smash grafting'. The donor tissue is obtained with a sterile razor blade held at the middle along the longitudinal axis using a straight artery forceps. The harvested skin is 'smashed' or cut into minute particles using a sterile curved suture cutting scissors in a sterile bowl. The smash graft is then applied to the recipient area using an applicator. The recipient area is opened after a period of eight days. Patients are advised to keep the area clean, and no further dressings are applied after this time. Late complications include scarring and hypopigmentation of the site. Smash grafting can be performed using simple instruments in a minor operation room, with the patient under local anesthesia and without a need for sophisticated workplaces." @default.
