- W4233252829 abstract "Helicase is an enzyme to unwind the nucleic acids structures. This type of enzyme is required to maintain the dynamic changes of DNA and RNA structures in cells that occurred during biological events such as replication, transcription, and chromatin remodeling. Some helicases display the preferential activity on unwinding of non-canonical structures of DNA and RNA including G-quadruplex (G4), i-motif, and triplex. This chapter shows that recent studies elucidate that some helicases have roles in the active unwinding of non-canonical DNA structures including triplex, four-stranded Holliday junctions, and G4s. The formation of G4s on an mRNA can reduce the processivity of the ribosome to decrease the gene expression level. As the non-canonical structures can block the processive replication, the helicase reactions are required to be coupled with DNA synthesis. G4 formations affect telomere maintenance, because G4s on telomere can block replication, which leads to defects for telomere such as telomere shortenings." @default.
