- W4233571882 abstract "The use of synthetic polymers for biological applications is a rapidly growing field of research, and neobiopolymers have been found to elicit significant and new biological activities. The technology for the generation of these new materials has progressed considerably in the past few years. One method for neobiopolymer synthesis that provides a means to assemble materials containing the diversity of functional groups found in biological systems is the ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP). This review will focus on the advances and advantages of ROMP for the generation of such neobiopolymers. To date, a prominent biological application of materials generated by ROMP has been in the exploration of the underlying features governing protein-carbohydrate interactions. Results in this area highlight the unique features of ROMP and point to many additional applications for this technology for the investigation and manipulation of biological systems." @default.
