In this chapter, Fogu elaborates an interpretation of Fascism as the political expression of modernist Mediterraneanism. Starting with the analysis of Mussolini’s speeches, the chapter reveals the impact that the idea of Mediterranean Imperium had on fascist foreign policy, the myth of Rome, and the development of fascist racial theories. At the same time, the chapter also shows the continuous hold of emporion on the fascist imaginary as revealed in the creation of the Fiera del levante in Bari (1931–1939) and the Mostra Triennale delle Terre d’Oltremare in Naples (1940)." @default.
