- W4235087506 abstract "This study involved the synthesis and characterization of transparent interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) materials, consisting of polyurethane (PUR) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). While PMMA provided transparency and rigidity, PUR contributed to the toughness necessary for impact-resistant applications. The main focus of this particular study was to investigate the changes in the physical and thermomechanical properties of sequential, full-IPNs when the cross-link density of the PUR network was altered. This was accomplished by increasing the molecular weight of the diol that was utilized in the PUR phase. Among the properties analyzed for these IPNs were the phase morphology and the final thermal and mechanical properties. Evaluations suggest that for IPNs containing a higher molecular weight diol, more PUR must be present in the network to decrease phase separation where PMMA may form domains that are too large. Additionally, it was also found that the cross-link density also plays a crucial role in determining the phase separation within the IPN." @default.
