The return of the yield point was m~asured for ageing times from 1 to 1000 seconds under isothermal conditions at a strain rate of 3.33 × 10−5sec−1.The value of ∆σ (the difference between the yield stress after ageing, σy, and the flow stress before ageing, σf) increased with time and temperature up to 40°C. At higher temperatures, there was a progressive decrease in ∆σ which occurred at shorter ageing times as the temperature increased.It was found that strain ageing under stress in quenched iron occurred in two stages: an initial stage interpreted as being due to Snoek ordering in the stress field of a dislocation, and a second slower stage having an activation energy of 17.6 kcal/mole, due to long-range diffusion of carbon. Résumé Les auteurs ont étudié, entre −20°C et 60°C, le vieillissement sous contrainte d'un fer Ferrovac E % (0.01 p. 100 de C) frafchement ecroui. Le retour du crochet a la limite d' élasticité a été observé pour des durées d'une seconde à 1000 secondes, en conditions d'isothermie, alors que la sollicitation était 3.33 × 10−5 Sec−1.La difference, ∆σ, entrre la limite supérieure d' élasticité (∆y) et la limite d' élasticité du métal fraichement écroui (σf), augmente avec le temps et la témperature, jusqu' à 40°C.
