- W4236441382 abstract "This chapter focuses on the formation of purine, pyrimidine, and pyridine ribonucleoside monophosphates from small molecular weight precursors, the initial metabolites of de novo nucleotide biosynthesis. It also focuses on conversion of these initial metabolites to nucleoside di- and triphosphates, and synthesis of deoxyribonu-cleotides from ribonucleotides. The chapter summarizes interconversion of nucleoside monophosphates, nucleoside diphosphates, and triphosphates. For the nucleotide biosynthesis, certain amino acids, namely, glutamine, glycine, and aspartate are utilized for nucleotide biosynthesis. The biosynthesis of purine, pyrimidine, and pyridine monophosphate utilizes distinct pathways. Compared to purine biosynthesis, the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway, namely the formation of uridine monophosphate from carbamoyl phosphate, is more straight forward. The pathway consists of reactions and the precursors are carbamoyl phosphate, aspartate, and 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP). PRPP is an essential substrate for the biosynthesis of nucleotides. In the case of purine nucleotide synthesis, the first step is phosphoribosylamine formation from PRPP." @default.
