- W4237202783 abstract "Fiber lasers can produce, in a compact device, outputs with remarkable beam quality and high output power and can operate with long life, high-power efficiency, and low cost of ownership. For middle infrared (mid-IR) fiber lasers, the dopants in the gain medium are rare-earth ions such as thulium (Tm3+), erbium (Er3+), holmium (Ho3+), or dysprosium (Dy3+). This chapter discusses five types of continuous-wave (CW) mid-IR fiber lasers, namely, Tm-based fiber lasers, Ho-based fiber lasers, Er-based fiber lasers, Dy-based fiber lasers, and Raman fiber lasers. Arsenic sulfide glass, a chalcogenide, has long been identified as an ideal candidate for mid-IR active Raman media. Mid-IR fiber lasers operating in the CW, Q-switched, and mode-locked modes open up a plethora of new applications in biomedicine, frequency combs generation, and in nonlinear optics and spectroscopy." @default.
