- W4237590269 abstract "Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) is a powerful radar signal processing that is able to form e.m. images of moving targets. ISAR processing is often erroneously considered as a subset of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) processing. In fact, although this consideration may be superficially made, there are many subtle differences that make SAR processing fail when applied to radar echoes of non-cooperative moving targets. In this book chapter, ISAR is introduced to the reader starting from an arbitrary geometry, which considers radar and target as objects that move independently from each other and without any knowledge of their motions. A suitable signal model is than defined that is used to derive a standard ISAR processor, which is based on target radial motion compensation and Fourier image formation. Additional considerations are made that make such standard ISAR processing applicable to the majority of all possible scenarios. Specifically, received signal time-windowing and time-frequency based techniques are used as an extension of the standard ISAR image formation method. Moreover, the problem of ISAR image cross-range scaling is addressed and solutions are provided. Differences and analogies between SAR and ISAR are also pointed out to further clarify the need of defining suitable and effective ISAR techniques to tackle the problem of imaging moving targets. Finally, details of Polarimetric ISAR (Pol-ISAR) and Bistatic ISAR (B-ISAR) are provided to introduce the reader to such extensions of standard ISAR scenarios." @default.
