- W4238286275 abstract "Although Zygmunt Bauman asserts that ‘access to global mobility’ plays no small part in social stratification, this chapter states that through looking at the situation of Moroccan women in Italy, and a number of other examples, that the ‘access to global mobility’ is also gendered. Women, in several parts of the world, have experienced difficulty in pursuing transnational movement, and are still subject to a relatively limited set of rules that are both culturally and normatively gendered. A shift has emerged in traditional understandings of international migration because migrants today, in contrast with the migrants in earlier periods, are more likely to possess social and political lives in more than one country. Because globalization is believed to initiate the reformulation of mobility, time, and space, this chapter explores how the social and political aspects associated with various human and gender rights are increasingly becoming transnational." @default.
