In order to better understand learning process, it looks at two useful frameworks: The Conscious Competence Ladder and Mind the Gap. The chapter further provides examples of applying these frameworks in a school context. The Conscious Competence Ladder highlights the factors that affect the thinking as they learn a new skill: consciousness (awareness) and skill level (competence). It identifies four levels as follows: unconscious incompetence; conscious incompetence; conscious competence; and unconscious competence. A growth mindset is the mindset of resilience.
