- W4239017598 abstract "Pine Point lead-zinc property, Northwest Territories, Canada, is unique in that it contains, within a limited area, a number of different types of naturally occuring bitumens normally much more widely separated in occurrence in nature. The most abundant forms of bitumen are asphaltic varieties, with more mature bitumen species present on a more limited scale. Pine Point bitumens were examined using reflected white and fluorescence light microscopy for determination of optical properties. Optical dispersion based on reflectance was determined and results were compared with those for coal macerals and graptolites.Pine Point bitumen species include gilsonite, glance pitch, grahamite, wurtzilite, albertite and epi-impsonite. Optical dispersion of these bitumens falls from short (blue) toward longer (red) wavelengths, indicating that these bitumens are immature to mature. Comparison of the atomic H/C ratios with atomic H/C ratios of liptinite-rich coals and normal coals indicates that the bitumens follow a maturation trend close to that of immature to mature liptinite-rich coals. Bituminous shales from Pine Point, the source rocks for the bitumens, have a similar liptinite composition to other bituminous shales found in the Middle Devonian of the Northwest Territories including the Normal Wells area." @default.
