- W4239102009 abstract "Inflammatory processes play an important role in coronary atherosclerosis, and C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of inflammation that is associated with adverse cardiovascular risk. This article describes the basic functions and measurement of CRP, the association between CRP and risk of cardiovascular events, and the relationship between stress-related psychological factors and CRP. It is concluded that inflammatory processes play a role in the association between psychological distress and adverse cardiovascular health, and that CRP is a potentially useful marker of inflammation and tissue damage in patients at increased risk for cardiovascular events. Various indicators of prolonged psychological distress are associated with CRP levels. The inflammatory nature of coronary atherosclerosis has elicited novel research on the interrelationships between immune-system parameters and psychosocial risk factors for cardiovascular events." @default.
