- W4239303323 abstract "This chapter provides an overview of several organizations and institutions for education in Latin America. At the Conference of Punta del Este (1967), the Presidents of Latin American countries agreed on a plan for modernization and development for the entire region. As a result, government structures were modernized; countries actively pursued educational reforms, agrarian reforms, and changes in the revenue systems, expansion of housing services, reduction in mortality rates, and improvements in health and sanitary conditions in each country. These reforms were a precondition to receiving massive injections of international aid aimed at accelerating the modernization process of the entire region. Education in Latin America is largely centralized and considered to be the responsibility of governments, who must ensure accessibility and the provision of universal primary education. Education is largely perceived as an integral part of the development process, thus it can only be explained in relation to the social, cultural, and economic development of each country." @default.
