- W4239897689 abstract "Ornamental shrimp are among the most popular invertebrates stocked by reef aquarium keepers, with a handful of species within genus Lysmata and Stenopus representing the majority of shrimp traded in the marine aquarium industry. The majority of traded specimens is still collected from the wild, with the cleaner shrimp L. amboinensis and L. debelius, a number of Lysmata species popularly termed as peppermint shrimp and the banded boxing shrimp Stenopus hispidus, being the most iconic species. Despite nearly two decades of research on the larviculture of these highly priced organisms, commercial scale protocols are still unavailable for the ones most heavily traded. The main bottlenecks impairing large numbers of cultured shrimp to enter the marine aquarium industry are related to their long larval development period and low survival at metamorphosis. The present chapter presents an overview of the current state of the art of Lysmata and Stenopus aquaculture, while also critically discussing the potential that post-larval capture and culture (PCC) may have to supply the industry and decrease the fishing effort targeting adult specimens." @default.
