- W4239919462 abstract "In stream, phenomena of oxygen consumption have been mainly discussed for organic matters in water. But, at stagnant area as estuary, the effect of bottom sediments on the sinks of oxygen is a problem one should not ignore, and must be considered. Generally, this problem can be solved by means of the diffusion equations. In this study, following experiments were per formed; (1) The effect of the stream flow on the diffusion. (2) The effect of the gases produced by anaerobic decompositions in the bottom sediments. A summary of the experimental results is shown as follows ; (1) When the flow velocity is less than 2.0 cm/sec, the effect of the velocity on the diffusion in the sludge layer can be neglected. (2) When the gases are produced, the diffusion coefficient is increased one or two orders on comparing without gas. (3) The most simpler diffusion model can be applicable for the diffusion of the organic matters in the sludge layer." @default.
