- W4240665087 abstract "This chapter discusses the potential applications of narrowband imaging (NBI) during Barrett's esophagus (BE) endoscopy as follows: characterization or differentiation of intestinal metaplasia (IM) and neoplasia; detection of BE neoplasia; delineation of neoplastic lesions; and follow-up after endoscopic therapy. Different classification systems for grading mucosal morphology with NBI have been proposed. More clinically relevant is the characterization of high-grade dysplasia (HGD)/esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) in BE. The hallmark of BE surveillance is the detection of early neoplasia, and for this indication NBI may potentially have the largest impact on improving current clinical practice. NBI had a higher sensitivity for the detection of HGD/EAC than high-definition white light endoscopy (HD-WLE). Currently the most important clinical applications of NBI in BE are as an auxiliary delineation tool prior to resection of neoplastic lesions and for inspection of neosquamous epithelium after radiofrequency ablation." @default.
