- W4241475423 abstract "Colloids and nanoparticles are used widely in the fabrication of porous materials by ice templating. This chapter focuses on the porous and nanostructured materials created by applying the ice-templating approach to nanoparticle suspensions of different shapes, sizes, and types. Facilitated by the growing ice crystals, the arrangement and assembly of the nanoparticles is key to the formation of these porous structures and nanostructures. The nanoparticles are usually identifiable in these structures. This chapter is arranged based on the shape and composition of the nanobuilding blocks. Owing to their extensive use in various applications, cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are described. Nanoparticles (including nanofibers, nanosheets, and platelets) are excellent building blocks for porous materials and composites via the ice-templating approach. Polymer nanoparticles are processed by the ice-templating method to create 1D nanowires or microwires. 3D porous structures can be equally fabricated from nanowires or nanofibres via the ice-templating approach." @default.
