- W4241661594 abstract "In the current literature malignant melanoma metastases are the third most frequent metastases to the CNS after carcinomas of the lung and breast. The percentage varies between 1.4 to 15.7% (4, 10, 14, 16, 21, 26, 28), where melanoma is the most frequent metastasizing neoplasm in the CNS (10). The evaluation of numerous autopsies rate the chances of a cerebral metastasis in patients with malignant melanoma as being between 6% and 90% (3, 10, 19, 20). AMER et al. specifically emphasize the variable clinical course of melanoma patients and that the interval which can elapse from a malignant melanoma to manifestation of cerebral metastases can extend up to 18 years (12, 28). The survival rate after the appearance of the first metastasis in the brain is generally only a few months, although longer survival rates have also been observed (5, 17, 18, 24, 28, 30). The results of our study generally agree with those described in other publications." @default.
