IR, electronic and ESR spectra used to characterize the complexes indicate a planar arrangement of four N-oxide oxygens around the Cu(II) center is favored when the preparative ligand to metal ion mole ratio was high, except when X = Cl. Both bidentate formation involving the amine function with the N-oxide group and anion coordination occurs when the ligand to metal ion ratio is low. The complexes decompose upon dissolution in many organic solvents limiting the characterization to solid-state techniques." @default.
