- W4242019465 abstract "This chapter encounters a variety of catalytic hydrogenation processes that were key to manufacturing a variety of important active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), methods. The processes include hydrogenation of olefins, carbonyls, and imines; asymmetric catalytic reduction of ketones using chiral oxazaborolidines; hydroformylation of olefins to branched and linear aldehydes; catalytic reductions with organocatalysts; and reductions of nitro compounds to amines. Asymmetric catalytic hydrogenations have also been accomplished using chiral auxiliaries. A number of key developments have been made with the stereoselective catalytic hydroformylation, which obviously is only important when the reaction shows good selectivity for the branched product. Most of the processes are asymmetric; and in recent years due to factors such as economics, safety, and quality, there has been a very concerted effort on behalf of the pharmaceutical industry to develop continuous-flow methods." @default.
